Pages 64-65 really shocked me because there was this little kid that was getting hanged, but because he was too light for his body weight to kill him instantly, he was hanging from the noose for more than a half hour. When I read this I was like, ¨Um, no. That does not make sense that they would have that little boy stay there having his life slowly fade away. They should have just shot him to put not only him, but all the other people out of the misery of watching him die, because I’m sure that all of the officers were heartbroken because of watching him. They may not have been able to show it, but somewhere inside of them they were probably feeling hurt for this boy.¨ This part to me was very sad because there was a child that had to get hanged and wait for his life to dwindle off because he wasn't heavy enough to basically kill himself. He had to feel the pain of death for over more than 30 minutes whereas all the other people’s lives were over in an instant. He had to wait in misery to die, he embarrassed himself in front of all of the people in the camp. He suffered a public miserable death.
This was an awful part of the book. It was just so sad to read these lines. The "angelic boy" was hung from a noose to be publicly killed. How awful is that? It is so astonishing and frightening to think that once upon a time this was being done in many parts of Europe. That one man had so much power over a whole race, where he could do this. It just does not make sense. Even worse of all the person who died was a innocent young boy who was loved and had done nothing wrong. That just makes it twice as sad. I don't understand how this could have happened at all.
