Do work, be exterminated.

“When they finished their work, the men from the Gestapo began theirs. Without passion or haste they shot their prisoners who were forced to approach the trench one by one and offer their necks.” ~ Night, p.6

I can’t imagine what it would be like to be a Jew during the Holocaust. Some of them had choiceless choices. Some of the Jews would either be killed or killed trying to stay alive by doing what they are told to do. This shows how the Nazis were just brutal to the Jews. The Nazis made the Jews do their work just to get exterminated in the end. If they knew they could just end up killed in the end then the they may have only continued because they still had a chance to live. The Jews may have done all the work so that they could still be with their family or just so they had a chance to live. I think if the Jews knew that in the end they were all going to die after they do what is asked of them I don’t think that the Jews would have continued to obey authority.

These people were defenseless. They did what they were told to do and in the some of them had to be killed right after. This quote reminds me of slavery in a way. When Slavery was happening the “whites” would make their Slaves do their work. Some of the Slaves would be transported to the harshest places and their owners may have killed them. This is like how the Jews were sent to concentration camps to work as if they themselves were slaves to the Nazis. The Jews had to work so hard for them and had to fight to stay alive. In the end both Jews and Slaves had the possibility of being murdered. They both had choiceless choices. Either way they would have the possibility of being killed but some did survive even though survival would be difficult. Living in either of these time periods would be very difficult and the choiceless choices would just cause me confusion.
