The establishment of ghettos marked the end of freedom of movement for Jews. Write about what freedom means to you in your life and what you think it would mean to lose it.
To me, freedom is having the right to live my life as I please, yet still ensuring safety and security. I believe freedom is what we always have fought for and will continue to fight for. According to the UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM, in the Warsaw Ghetto there were “several Jewish underground organizations created an armed self-defense unit known as the Jewish Combat Organization” which shows that even those who already had their rights taken away, will keep fighting for their freedom. Also the way the Jewish people had their rights stripped from them would have been nearly impossible for me, personally, to bear. Some of the ridiculous, seemingly small, or insignificant laws against them really adds up. Like no pets. Or like no milk, milk keeps you strong. 1938, no Jewish children in public schools. As the restriction worsens, it eventually leads to ghettos and concentration camps. And suddenly, you have no rights at all. According to the UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM, sickness spread like wildfire, and garbage and feces littered the streets. They didn't have the freedom to buy much bread, potatoes or fat. So they were constantly hungry. They didn't have the freedom to even be out of their crowded homes past a certain time. There were many orphans. Not having freedom would be devastating. When you lose your freedom you die.
